Internal data from Lands of America shows nearly $764 million in land and rural real estate for sale in the Garden State. This represents a total of 10,624 acres of New Jersey land for sale. Of the 21 counties in New Jersey, Essex County had the most land and farms for sale. The most expensive property listed for sale in New Jersey on Lands of America recently was $7 million, while the average price of land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale in New Jersey was $393,521. There were 238 acres of sold land in New Jersey recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $5 million. Essex County had the most land sales recently in the state. New Jersey holds more than a half-million acres of state-owned land available for outdoor recreation in a diverse landscape that spreads from hardwood ridges to pine forests to coastal marshlands. Of this, some 350,000 acres reside within 121 wildlife management areas specially designated for wildlife and wildlife-related recreation. Garden State hunters enjoy over 100 days of deer hunting season for bow, shotgun, and muzzle-loading rifle hunts. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including whitetail deer, geese, turkey, bear, and ducks, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in New Jersey. Anglers will enjoy casting for species like bass, catfish, and trout on land for sale in the state. New Jersey ranks among the country's smallest states in terms of size, covering an area of 8,722 square miles (6 million acres). Of this area, 7,354 square miles (84 percent) is made up of land, while the remaining 1,368 square miles comprises water.
